Timberwolves Dominate Warriors in Road Rout
SOCORRO, N.M. – The East Mountain Lady Timberwolves left little room for doubt on Friday night, putting together a clinical performance to dismantle the Socorro Lady Warriors 48-13. The victory moves East Mountain to 4-5 on the season as they head into the holiday break on a high note.
A Stifling Start
From the opening tip, East Mountain’s defensive pressure overwhelmed the hosts. Utilizing an aggressive full-court press, the Timberwolves forced turnovers and transitioned them into easy baskets. The dominance was so absolute that East Mountain surged to a 41-0 lead before Socorro finally found the scoreboard with just 2:59 remaining in the second quarter.

Leading the charge offensively was Evelyn Kannolt, who delivered a standout performance with a game-high 23 points. Kate Hushman also reached double figures, contributing 12 points to the Timberwolves’ total.
Building the Program
With a massive lead established early, head coach Ron Drake utilized the second half to give his younger players significant varsity minutes—a move he views as vital for the school’s future.
“You got to play the younger kids,” Drake said post-game. “They’re nervous out there, but they got to play too. Like I told you before, you got to build a program, not just a team. They’re part of the program, so I’m happy with them.”

While the younger rotation allowed Socorro to find a few late baskets, Drake remained focused on the defensive foundation his starters built. “Our press worked really good in the first quarter,” he noted. “They probably accomplished everything we had in mind coming in.”
