Timberwolves Claim Dual Runner-Up Finishes at Jemez Valley Invite; Four Events Secure State Berths

JEMEZ PUEBLO — The Timberwolves track and field program delivered a dominant performance at the Jemez Valley Invite this past weekend, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams capturing second place overall in a competitive field of 16 schools.
While the trophies marked a successful weekend on the scoreboard, team officials noted that the squad is competing with an added layer of motivation this spring. Competing to honor a legacy, the Timberwolves displayed a “never-quit” spirit that translated into a flurry of podium finishes and several early-season qualifications for the State Meet.
The Lady Timberwolves narrowly missed the top spot on the podium, finishing just two points shy of first place in a battle that came down to the final events.
State Bound
Four Timberwolves entries officially punched their tickets to the State Meet by hitting qualifying marks:
- Jaylyn Olguin: 200m Dash and High Jump
- Bodi True: Discus
- Zane Conklin: Javelin
- Girls 4x200m Relay: Ella O’Leary, Tessa Knight, Ada Hansen, and Jaylyn Olguin
Lady Timberwolves Highlights
Jaylyn Olguin and Ruth Trullinger led the charge for the girls’ side with multiple gold-medal performances. Olguin took first in the 200m dash and the high jump, while Trullinger proved her versatility by sweeping the 400m dash, the 800m run, and the long jump.
In the distance events, Elizabeth Smutz earned silver in the 3200m and bronze in the 1600m, while also placing second in the high jump. Ada Hansen added a second-place finish in the 100m dash, and Elizabeth Appel took second in the discus.
The Lady Timberwolves also showed their depth in the relays, taking first place in both the 4x200m and 4x400m (Hansen, Alexis Smith, Samantha York, Trullinger), and third in the 4x100m.
Boys Timberwolves Highlights
The boys’ team saw standout performances in the throwing events, where Bodi True and Zane Conklin both secured first-place finishes in the discus and javelin, respectively.
On the track, Jeremiah Johnson (second) and Owen Smith (third) reached the podium in the 400m dash, while Josh Komensky took second place in the 3200m run.
The boys’ relay teams were equally effective. The 4x400m squad of Liam Newsted, Owen Smith, Gavin Mahoney, and Jeremiah Johnson claimed first place. The Timberwolves also earned runner-up honors in the 4x100m (Conklin, Zach Barela, Nick Barela, True) and the 4x800m (Nick Appel, Weiland Rompf, Matt Berry, Elias AlaridPease).
