PET OF THE MONTH: Meet Ritz at the Edgewood Animal Shelter

EDGEWOOD, N.M. — A social, friendly 3-year-old dog named Ritz has been selected as the Edgewood Animal Shelter’s November Pet of the Month, headlining a positive stretch that saw adoptions outpace animal intakes during October.
Caretakers describe Ritz as an outgoing companion who interacts well with both other dogs and cats, making her a versatile candidate for local households seeking a family pet.

Her selection comes on the heels of a productive month for the municipal facility, which recorded 32 adoptions against 30 incoming intakes throughout October. Paired with five owner reclaims and four transfers to partner rescue organizations, the shelter facilitated positive outcomes for 41 animals across the East Mountain area.
Looking ahead to colder seasonal conditions, the shelter has also partnered with animal welfare nonprofit NMDOG to provide free bedding straw for community members who need assistance keeping outdoor dogs insulated through the winter. Straw provides an effective moisture-resistant thermal barrier inside outdoor doghouses against freezing overnight temperatures.
The complimentary straw supply arrives Wednesday, Nov. 4, and will be distributed while supplies last during standard business hours.
The Edgewood Animal Shelter is located at 16 Municipal Way. Operations run Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Inquiries regarding Ritz, adoptions, or the winter straw initiative can be made by calling 505-926-9013.
