Village of Tijeras to Host Route 66 Centennial Celebration with Car Show and Community Activities

TIJERAS — The Village of Tijeras is gearing up for a major community milestone with the announcement of the Route 66 Centennial Celebration, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026. The event, which runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., will be held at 10 Tijeras Ave. in Tijeras. Admission is free, and the entire public is invited to attend.

Organizers describe the celebration as “fun for the whole family,” designed to celebrate the historic spirit of Route 66 while supporting local businesses. A wide array of family-friendly activities are planned to run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., including:

  • Classic Car Show: A centerpiece of the event, showcasing a diverse range of vehicles. Owners of classic, antique, muscle cars, lowriders, custom trucks, motorcycles, or other unique vehicles are encouraged to display their rides. Registration is free. Participants can register by emailing mmartinez@tijerasnm.gov or calling Village Hall at 505-281-1220.
  • Craft & Artisan Vendors: A variety of local vendors will be selling unique goods.
  • Kids’ Activities: A water slide and jumper will be available, along with “Bright Brush” face painting and balloon twisting. A dunk tank will also be part of the festivities.

As the afternoon transitions into the evening, the celebration will continue with food and music from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • Food Truck: The “Aguas Deliciosas” food truck will be on-site from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Beer Garden: Hosted by Rock Canyon Cider.
  • Live Music: Performance by Tripple-X.

The Village of Tijeras emphasizes that this celebration is about “making lasting memories with family, friends, and neighbors.” The event tagline is “Where History Meets the Open Road,” highlighting the enduring appeal of the historic Mother Road.
