NM 344 Paving Project Starts Friday

EDGEWOOD — A $1.5 million roadway rehabilitation project is set to begin Friday on N.M. 344, likely causing traffic delays for travelers in the Edgewood area, state transportation officials announced Wednesday.

The project, which spans a four-mile stretch from milepost 5 to milepost 9, involves milling and repaving the existing roadway surface. According to the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), the structural treatment is designed to improve road conditions and extend the life of the highway by replacing the current asphalt layer.

Construction is scheduled to take place Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Officials expect the work to be completed by June 1, depending on weather conditions.

During work hours, traffic will be reduced to a single lane. NMDOT confirmed that a pilot car will be on-site to guide motorists through the construction zone.

“Motorists should expect delays and are urged to plan travel accordingly,” the department said in a statement. Drivers are also reminded to reduce speed and remain alert for construction personnel and equipment.

Cutler Repaving Inc. has been contracted to perform the work. For real-time traffic updates, travelers can visit www.nmroads.com or dial 511.
