Local Storehouse Hosts Free Cooking Class to Boost Kitchen Confidence

MORIARTY – Local residents looking to sharpen their culinary skills while saving money at the grocery store have a new opportunity to learn this month. Bethel Community Storehouse has announced a partnership with New Mexico State University to host a free community cooking class on Monday, February 2nd.
The session, which begins at 11:00 AM, is part of the ICAN (Ideas for Cooking and Nutrition) program. The initiative is designed to provide practical, hands-on education for individuals and families looking to make healthier lifestyle choices on a budget.
What to Expect
The upcoming class is tailored for all skill levels and covers three essential pillars of home cooking:
- Fundamental Cooking Skills: Practical techniques to make meal preparation easier and more efficient.
- Strategic Meal Planning: Tips on how to plan menus before shopping to reduce food waste and lower grocery bills.
- Food Health and Safety: Essential guidelines on proper food handling and storage to keep families safe.

Community Impact
The ICAN program is a staple of the NMSU Cooperative Extension Service, funded by the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). By bringing these resources directly to the Bethel Community Storehouse, organizers hope to reach those who can benefit most from “stretching” their food dollars while improving their nutritional health.
