East Mountain Beats 5A Albuquerque 3-0

SANDIA PARK — Christopher Moya turned in a dominant performance on the mound and at the plate Saturday, leading Class 3A No. 1 East Mountain to a 3-0 shutout victory over Class 5A Albuquerque High.

The Timberwolves (10-1) extended their impressive start to the season by stifling the Bulldogs (6-9) with a combined five-hitter.

Moya earned the win, tossing six scoreless innings while scattering five hits. He struck out four and issued two walks before turning the ball over to Cole Darnell, who pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn the save and preserve the shutout.

East Mountain’s offense provided all the support the pitching staff would need, starting early with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Timberwolves added two insurance runs in the fifth to pull away.

At the plate, Moya helped his own cause by going 1-for-2. The East Mountain attack was paced by Ty Rector and Aidan Madrid, who each collected two hits. Charlie Birdwell and Madrid each drove in a run, while Rector, Birdwell, and Brody Johnson accounted for the team’s three runs scored.

Despite the loss, Albuquerque’s Mario Zamora delivered a strong performance on the hill. Zamora went five innings, striking out eight batters and allowing only one earned run. However, the Bulldogs’ offense struggled to capitalize, hampered by three errors in the field.

East Mountain finished the day with eight hits and played error-free baseball, a hallmark of their top-ranked status in Class 3A.

The Timberwolves look to carry this momentum forward as they continue their regular-season campaign, while Albuquerque High will look to bounce back and climb toward a .500 record.
