Moriarty Field Athletes, Sprinters Show Early-Season Strength at Tiger Invitational

Carmen Dorsey-Spitz dominated the distance events Saturday, capturing two individual titles to lead the Moriarty High School track and field team at the Tiger Invitational.
Dorsey-Spitz swept the long-distance races, taking first place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:21.55 before securing the gold in the 3,200-meter run at 11:12.05. Her performance anchored a strong showing for the Pintos’ girls’ distance squad, which saw Olivia Riblett take fourth in the 3,200 (13:12.44) and sixth in the 1,600 (6:06.95).
In the sprints, Laisa Ortiz earned a top-five finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 13.44 seconds to place fifth overall. Ortiz also claimed seventh in the 200-meter dash (28.12). Teammate Marlynne Deems added an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.45.
On the boys’ side, Devin Ortiz provided the top sprint result, finishing 11th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.97 seconds. Noah Gonzales led the Pintos in the 100-meter dash, placing 24th in 12.03 seconds.
The boys’ distance efforts were led by Devin Wiltbank, who notched a sixth-place finish in the 3,200-meter run (11:12.18) and took 11th in the 1,600-meter (5:04.22). James McClain also cracked the top ten in the 3,200, finishing 10th with a time of 11:45.02.
In the field, Abby Saucedo cleared 4 feet, 6 inches in the high jump to take sixth place, while also finishing 10th in the long jump (14-02). Maya Gonzales led the throwers with an eighth-place mark in the shot put (29-04.50) and a 10th-place finish in the javelin (74-02).
For the boys, Dylan Jaramillo paced the throwers with a 16th-place finish in the javelin (104-05) and 19th in the discus (88-06). Mishen Jaramillo added a 24th-place mark in the shot put at 27-03.
Moriarty showed depth in the relays, highlighted by the girls’ 4×200-meter team, which placed fourth in 1:58.12, and the 4×400-meter team, which took fifth in 4:42.35. The boys’ 4×400-meter relay team finished sixth with a time of 3:58.44.
The Pintos will return to action on March 21 when they host the Pedro and Mateo Sandoval Memorial in Moriarty.
