Birdwell’s 6 RBIs power East Mountain past St. Michael’s

SANTA FE, N.M. — Charles Birdwell drove in six runs, including a home run and a triple, as East Mountain cruised to a 15-4 victory over St. Michael’s in a non-conference varsity baseball matchup on Monday.

The Timberwolves (4-0) overcame an early one-run deficit with a relentless 17-hit attack, capped by a six-run explosion in the sixth inning that put the game out of reach for the Horsemen (2-2).

Birdwell finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring three times to lead an East Mountain offense that has now outscored opponents 43-11 through its first four games of the season. Aidan Madrid contributed three RBIs on two hits, while Aidan Madrid and Ryan Moorhead combined for five hits to keep the pressure on the St. Michael’s pitching staff.

St. Michael’s struck first with a run in the opening frame, but East Mountain responded in the third inning with three runs to take a lead they would never relinquish. The Timberwolves added two in the fourth and one in the fifth before breaking the game open in the final two innings.

The Horsemen struggled defensively, committing three errors that aided the East Mountain rally. Despite individual efforts from Aidan Cedillo and Michael Giesler, St. Michael’s was held to just six hits by a Timberwolves pitching staff led by Madrid.

Brody Johnson also sparked the East Mountain offense, recording a triple and scoring three runs, while Dalton Springall and Ty Rector each added doubles in the win.

East Mountain looks to remain undefeated as they travel to face Robertson on March 12. St. Michael’s will look to bounce back as they continue their non-conference schedule.
