Young Pinto Baseball Squad is Showing Flashes of Production

MORIARTY — The Moriarty Pintos baseball team is navigating a challenging 2026 spring campaign, as a young roster battled through a rigorous non-district schedule to find its rhythm before the start of District 2-4A play.

The Pintos (4-7) have shown flashes of high-level production, particularly from a core of underclassmen who are quickly adjusting to the varsity stage.

Scribner and Klein Lead the Charge

Senior Raiden Scribner has been the undisputed anchor of the Moriarty offense. Through the first 11 games, the catcher/infielder is batting a blistering .500, leading the team in hits (15) and home runs (2). Scribner’s power was on full display during a recent tournament matchup against Aztec, where he finished 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.

Complementing Scribner is sophomore standout Cash Klein. Occupying the hot corner at third base, Klein has emerged as the team’s primary run producer, leading the Pintos with 12 RBIs. His .564 on-base percentage highlights a disciplined approach that has kept the Moriarty offense moving during their four victories this season.

Mound Presence and Defensive Depth

On the mound, the Pintos are leaning on sophomore Micah Kamplain, who has developed into the staff’s most reliable arm. Kamplain currently holds the team’s lowest ERA at 2.51, striking out batters at a consistent clip while providing the stability needed in tight contests.

The defense has been bolstered by junior Mario Romero at first base and sophomore Scott Batie at shortstop. Batie has been a standout in the field, maintaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage through the season’s opening month.

Looking Ahead

The Pintos’ season has been marked by significant wins, including a dominant 17-5 victory over Gallup and a 10-1 win against Valencia. As the team prepares to face Espanola Valley on Wednesday, head coach Ben Gonzales will look for continued growth from a roster that includes deep-threat outfielder Trey Denomme—who leads the team with seven stolen bases—and versatile contributors like Oscar Shuck, Rylan Thackerson, and Wesley Francis.

With a mix of veteran senior leadership from the Kamplain brothers and Scribner, and a surging group of sophomores, Moriarty remains a dangerous out as they eye a climb back toward the .500 mark in the coming weeks.
