Wonders on Wheels Mobile Museum Coming to Moriarty

MORIARTY — A traveling state museum exhibition is scheduled to make a stop in Torrance County next month, bringing an interactive history and art program directly to East Mountain families.
The Wonders on Wheels mobile museum, an educational outreach initiative operated by the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, will visit the Moriarty Community Library on July 15. The mobile exhibition space will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Housed inside a retrofitted 38-foot recreational vehicle, the mobile program travels across New Mexico to provide specialized museum experiences to municipalities and rural communities located outside major metropolitan centers.
The current featured exhibition, titled “The Arts of Democracy in New Mexico,” was developed in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. According to program administrators, the display explores the foundational concepts of freedom and self-government, tracking how those ideals have evolved and been expressed regionally through creative mediums.
The multi-media display features historical and contemporary examples of New Mexico regional art forms, including textiles, independent local newspapers, historical political cartoons, protest buttons, and community-published zines.
In addition to the interior museum displays, the stop will include hands-on educational activities designed for youth and school-aged children.
The Moriarty Community Library is located at 202 Broadway St. South. Admission to the mobile museum event is free of charge.
