Local Families Invited to Explore Classical Education at Upcoming EVCA Informational Meeting

EDGEWOOD – As the 2026-2027 enrollment season approaches, the Estancia Valley Classical Academy is opening its doors to families curious about its unique “back-to-basics” approach to a free public education.

The school will host a Parent Informational Meeting on Tuesday, February 24, at 6:30 PM in Independence Hall. The event coincides with the launch of the school’s open enrollment period, which officially begins one day prior, on February 23rd.

A Focus on “Truth and Virtue”

Founded on the classical liberal arts tradition, EVCA operates as a tuition-free public charter school that emphasizes the Trivium—a three-stage educational model of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.

The curriculum is notably distinct from traditional public schools, requiring students to study Latin starting in the 7th grade and concluding their senior year with a Moral Philosophy course and a formal Senior Thesis.

What to Expect at the Meeting

The informational session is designed to give prospective parents a “look under the hood” of the academy’s operations. Attendees will receive:

  • Guided Campus Tours: A chance to see the facility, including the recent East-side expansion.
  • Curriculum Deep-Dive: Educators will explain the Core Knowledge Sequence and how classical pedagogy is applied in the classroom.
  • Q&A Session: Administrators will be on hand to answer questions regarding the school’s structure, discipline policies, and the lottery process.

Navigating Growth and Accountability

The meeting comes at a pivotal time for the academy. Like many charter schools in New Mexico, EVCA has balanced academic growth—recently receiving a “Spotlight” designation from the state—with the challenges of rapid expansion.

While the school has seen high marks for its college-prep focus, local interest remains high as neighboring districts also expand their middle school offerings. For families in the East Mountains, the February 24th meeting serves as a primary opportunity to determine if the school’s disciplined, virtue-based environment aligns with their children’s needs.
