Title Race Heat Up: Moriarty Moves to 8-1 in District Ahead of Los Alamos Showdown

MORIARTY, N.M. — Trey Denomme went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles as the Moriarty Pintos completed a doubleheader sweep of the Taos Tigers with a 12-3 victory on Saturday.
The win keeps Moriarty (12-8, 8-1 District 2-4A) deadlocked with Los Alamos for first place in the district standings. The Pintos showcased an efficient offense, racking up 12 hits while capitalizing on four Taos errors.
Denomme was the catalyst for the Moriarty attack, finishing with three runs scored and an RBI to go along with his three extra-base hits. He received plenty of support from sophomore Micah Kamplain, who went 2-for-4 with a double, and Wesley Francis, who drove in two runs.
Moriarty took control early with a four-run second inning and never looked back, scoring in every frame. Pinch runner Oscar Shuck crossed the plate three times for the Pintos.
On the mound, sophomore Cash Klein earned the win with a steady performance. Klein tossed six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out three on 63 pitches. Junior Cooper Schnerch provided a perfect inning of relief to close out the seventh, needing only seven pitches to retire the Tigers in order.

Taos (8-14, 5-5) struggled to find consistency a week after handing Los Alamos its only district loss—an 11-1 blowout on April 18. The Tigers managed eight hits on Saturday but were hampered by the four defensive errors that allowed Moriarty to extend several scoring rallies.
The Pintos now prepare for a pivotal week that could decide the district crown. Moriarty hosts Pojoaque Valley on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before a high-stakes doubleheader against Los Alamos on May 1, with the opening pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Pintos (11-8) blew the game open in the late stages, scoring seven runs across the fifth and sixth innings to secure the home conference win.

Moriarty junior Tyler Denomme was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including a triple, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Senior Raiden Scribner added a double and two RBIs of his own, while Nick Kamplain contributed two hits and two runs to a Pintos offense that out-hit Taos 10-5.
On the mound, sophomore Micah Kamplain delivered a commanding complete-game performance. Over seven innings, Kamplain allowed just one unearned run on five hits while striking out seven. He threw 99 pitches to navigate through 31 batters, surrendering only three walks.

Taos (8-13) struck first in the second inning to take a brief 1-0 lead, but Moriarty responded immediately with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. After a scoreless third and fourth, the Pintos’ bats ignited for five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Wesley Francis and Mario Romero each drove in a run for Moriarty, while Cash Klein added a double in the winning effort.
