Timberwolves Bomb Espanola Valley in 17-2 Victory

Aidan Madrid and Quinlan Gwyther combined for five hits and seven RBIs to power the East Mountain Timberwolves to a commanding 17-2 non-league victory over the Espanola Valley Sundevils on Friday.
The Timberwolves (7-1) erupted for six runs in the first inning and never looked back, capitalizing on a potent offense that tallied 11 hits and 13 RBIs in the four-inning, run-rule shortened contest.
Madrid, a senior, paced the Timberwolves at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Gwyther, also a senior, provided the extra-base power, finishing 2 for 4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and a team-high four RBIs.
Senior Dalton Springall anchored the East Mountain defense on the mound. Springall earned the win, striking out six batters and allowing just one earned run on one hit and two walks across 2.1 innings. Freshman Tobias Gabaldon closed out the game in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings while giving up just one hit, walking one, and striking out one.
East Mountain’s offense was relentless from the opening pitch. After their six-run first inning, the Timberwolves added three runs in the second, seven in the third, and a final run in the fourth.
Gabaldon also made an impact at the plate, going 1 for 1 with a run scored and two RBIs. Senior Charles Birdwell and sophomore Brody Johnson each added a hit and an RBI, while sophomore Sullivan Millea picked up a hit in his lone at-bat. Junior Ryan Moorhead and senior Ty Rector showed strong plate discipline and baserunning, each crossing the plate twice for the Timberwolves.
Espanola Valley (1-7-1) struggled to contain the East Mountain lineup and was plagued by three fielding errors. The host Sundevils managed just two hits on the afternoon, pushing across single runs in the first and third innings.
With the win, East Mountain improves to 7-1 on the season and will look to carry its momentum into a home matchup against an undefeated West Las Vegas (3-0) squad on Saturday, March 21.
Espanola Valley will attempt to snap its losing skid when the Sundevils prepare for an upcoming non-league outing against Capital (5-5).
