Rector, Springall Announce College Choices, 5 T-Wolves to Sign May 27
SANDIA PARK — The East Mountain High School baseball program is sending an unprecedented contingent to the next level.
Seniors Ty Rector and Dalton Springall have announced their collegiate commitments, bringing the total number of Timberwolves from this year’s squad heading to college baseball programs to a staggering five players. Rector has committed to Ottawa University Arizona (OUAZ), while Springall is headed to Justice University in Utah.
The duo joins teammates Luke Stoerner (Lubbock Christian University), Chris Moya II (Lassen Community College), and Cole Darnell (Lassen Community College) to round out a remarkable senior class of next-level talent. All five standouts will make their commitments official at a joint signing ceremony on May 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Vista Grande Community Center.

Rector, a versatile senior leader, put up massive numbers at the plate this season to earn his spot with the OUAZ Spirit. Across 29 games, Rector batted a blistering .478, collecting 44 hits—including 15 doubles, a triple, and five home runs—while driving in 41 runs and scoring 52 times. On the mound, Rector was equally sharp in his appearances, flashing a microscopic 1.17 ERA over three games with a perfect 1-0 record and two saves.

Springall proved to be a vital piece of the Timberwolves’ high-powered machine, both as a reliable run-producer and a steady presence on the pitching staff. He hit .349 on the year with 15 hits, seven RBIs, and 27 runs scored. On the bump, Springall locked down a flawless 1-0 record over five appearances, maintaining a 5.83 ERA to help anchor East Mountain’s deep pitching rotation.
The additions of Rector and Springall to the college-bound list caps off a memorable run of signings for the T-Wolves. Earlier this spring, ace and utility star Luke Stoerner—who hit .541 with 48 RBIs and posted a brilliant 0.84 ERA with a 6-0 record on the mound—punched his ticket to NCAA Division II powerhouse Lubbock Christian.
Meanwhile, the California junior college ranks will get a major influx of East Mountain talent, as both Moya and Darnell are bound for Lassen Community College. Moya balanced a .309 batting average with a perfect 6-0 record and 2.03 ERA on the mound. Darnell was just as lethal, hitting .429 while serving as a premier arm for the T-Wolves, matching Moya with a 6-1 record, a 2.03 ERA, and a team-high four saves.
Together, the group anchored a spectacular season that saw the Timberwolves finish with a dominant 28-1 overall record, capping off the brilliant run as state champions alongside a near-blemishless 1.96 team ERA.
Wednesday’s signing day celebration will honor the five-player class as they officially transition from Timberwolves to the college ranks.
