Moriarty’s Maldonado Strikes out 16 in 14-3 win

Moriarty freshman pitcher Bella Maldonado opened the 2026 softball season with a one-hit, 16-strikeout gem on Tuesday as the Lady Pintos defeated Del Norte 14-3.

Maldonado helped her pitching efforts with a team-high three hits, including a double and triple. The Lady Pintos also got multiple hits from Angelita Tapia and Destinee Chavez, who had two hits each. Carmelita Tapia and Angelita Tapia also had two RBI for the Lady Pintos.

Moriarty took a 10-0 lead into the top of the fifth inning, where Del Norte managed its three runs. The Lady Pintos tagged on a run in the bottom of the frame and added three more in the bottom of the sixth inning to run-rule the game.

Peyton Rutz, Danika Davenport, and Alexis Goodrum added one hit each to Moriarty’s totals.

The Lady Pintos travel to Socorro on Thursday for a 5 pm game.
