Moriarty Rocks Socorro in 21-3 Victory

SOCORRO — The Moriarty Lady Pintos put on an offensive clinic Thursday afternoon, overwhelming the Socorro Warriors 21-3 in a non-conference road game that was called after four innings.

Moriarty (2-0) wasted no time establishing dominance, plating four runs in the first inning before exploding for 10 more in the second. The Lady Pintos’ power was on full display with two home runs helping to drive a relentless scoring attack that saw the team rack up 21 runs on just five hits, aided by 17 RBIs and a disciplined approach that drew numerous walks.

Freshman Bella Maldonado turned in a monster performance at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, five RBIs, and four runs scored. Sophomore Peyton Rutz also homered, going 1-for-1 with four RBIs. Angelita Tapia contributed a triple and two RBIs, while senior Kristina Means added a hit and an RBI.

Moriarty’s pitching staff was equally effective in the circle. Junior Emma Rodriguez earned the win, throwing three hitless innings and striking out eight Warriors. Maldonado closed out the game in the fourth, adding three strikeouts of her own to bring the team’s total to 11.

The Lady Pintos were also aggressive on the basepaths, recording eight stolen hits. Angelita Tapia led the way with two steals, while Maldonado, Means, Alexis Goodrum, and C. Bencomo Sotelo each swiped one.

With the victory, Moriarty remains undefeated on the season, outscoring opponents 35-6 over their first two contests. The Lady Pintos hit the road for a game against Highland on March 9 and at East Mountain for a doubleheader on March 12.
