Lady Pintos outlast Laguna Acoma 12-8 to take third place at Santa Fe Indian School Tournament

SANTA FE — The Moriarty Lady Pintos bounced back from a semifinal defeat to capture third place at the Santa Fe Indian School Tournament, outslugging the Laguna Acoma Hawks for a 12-8 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Moriarty’s offense set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning, five in the second and three in the third to build a commanding 10-3 lead. Laguna Acoma mounted a late push with a five-run fifth inning, but the Lady Pintos’ early offensive cushion proved to be enough to secure the win.

Kristina Means was perfect at the plate to pace Moriarty, going 3-for-3 and driving in three runs. Pitcher Emma Rodriguez also swung a hot bat at the top of the lineup, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Bella Maldonado contributed multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Angelita Tapia added a hit and two RBIs.

Despite committing three errors in the field, Moriarty compensated with aggressive baserunning and consistent contact. The Lady Pintos tallied 10 hits as a team and successfully stole six bases, with Rodriguez and Angelita Tapia each swiping a pair.

Braves quiet Lady Pintos’ bats

Moriarty’s offense was kept in check by Santa Fe Indian pitcher I. Galvan, who earned the victory by striking out 10 batters over six innings. Galvan allowed two runs on four hits and issued four walks.

The Lady Pintos pushed their only two runs across the plate in the top of the fourth inning. Means and Danika Davenport each scored for Moriarty, but the rally was cut short before the team could close the gap further.

Bella Maldonado took the pitching loss for the Lady Pintos. Maldonado pitched four innings, allowing six runs — four earned — on three hits. She struck out seven Braves but struggled with command, issuing four walks.

However, Hope Christian could not contain the Lady Pintos’ bats down the stretch, surrendering four runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth.
