Edgewood Kicks Off the Holidays—and the Route 66 Centennial

EDGEWOOD, NM—The East Mountain community of Edgewood is set to sparkle with double the excitement this holiday season. On Friday, December 5, the town’s annual festive gathering is not only delivering Santa, carols, and a spectacular tree lighting, but it’s also officially kicking off its participation in the historic Route 66 Centennial Celebration.

The evening begins at 6:00 PM with the dazzling Twinkle Light Parade, where creatively decorated classic vehicles and floats—likely embodying the neon-and-chrome spirit of Route 66—will stream down NM 344 and head toward Venus Park.

It’s the perfect blend of small-town magic and national history.

The Main Event at Venus Park

Once the parade concludes at Venus Park (181 NM 344), the celebration shifts into high gear at 7:00 PM with the arrival of Santa, followed immediately by the much-anticipated Town Tree Lighting. This moment transforms Venus Park into a holiday wonderland, marking the official start of the holiday season in Edgewood.

From 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the family-friendly festivities continue indoors and out with:

  • 🎶 Caroling and festive music
  • 🧠 Holiday Movie Trivia for bragging rights
  • Cookies & Hot Beverages

Honoring the Mother Road

While the main Route 66 Centennial occurs nationally in 2026, communities like Edgewood—which sits right on the historic highway—are using their major annual events to launch a multi-year commemoration. The Centennial Kick-Off is Edgewood’s way of celebrating its deep roots in the American road trip history and positioning itself as a must-see stop on the journey.

Visitors and locals are encouraged to join the fun, games, and refreshments for a night that blends winter cheer with the enduring legacy of Route 66.
