East Mountain Track and Field Teams Capture Relay Title, Podium Finishes at Rio Rancho Rust Buster

RIO RANCHO — The East Mountain Timberwolves track and field teams delivered strong performances Saturday at the Rio Rancho Rust Buster, highlighted by the girls’ squad capturing a relay title and tying for fifth place in the overall team standings.

The Lady Timberwolves scored 41 points to tie with Grants High School for fifth place in the deep 13-team field. The East Mountain boys’ team finished ninth overall with 17 points, led by a standout individual performance in the throwing events.

The highlight of the meet for East Mountain came on the track, where the girls’ 4×200-meter relay team of Ella O’Leary, Tessa Knight, Ada Hansen, and Jaylyn Olguin surged past the competition to win the event with a time of 1:47.25, comfortably beating host Rio Rancho.

Olguin and Hansen were consistent point-scorers throughout the day. Olguin claimed second place in the 200-meter dash (26.15) and tied for second in the high jump (4-08.00). Hansen followed closely, taking third in the high jump, fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.11), and fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.16).

On the boys’ side, Bodi True secured East Mountain’s highest individual placement, capturing second place in the discus throw with a toss of 115-06.50. Eli Conklin also had a busy day, finishing seventh in the javelin (117-10) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (24.24), while anchoring multiple relays.
