Timberwolves’ True and Trullinger Set the Pace on Day One of State

ALBUQUERQUE — East Mountain High School’s Bodi True secured a silver medal in the boys discus throw Friday, leading a strong opening-day performance for the Timberwolves at the 2026 NMAA Class A-3A State Track and Field Championships.

True’s throw of 128 feet, 5 inches earned him second place in the state finals. The Timberwolves saw several other top-10 finishes on day one, including a dual-scoring effort from Ruth Trullinger, who took fourth in the girls 800-meter run (2:25.00) and sixth in the long jump (15-02.00).

On the boys’ side, Jeremiah Johnson added a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.89.

The East Mountain girls relay teams set a high bar for Saturday’s finals, qualifying for the 4×200-meter relay with the fastest preliminary time in the field at 1:46.23. The boys’ squad was equally productive, qualifying for the finals in the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400-meter relays.

Individual sprint dominance was on display as the Timberwolves qualified four runners for the girls 200-meter dash finals: Jaylyn Olguin, Ada Hansen, Tessa Knight, and Ella O’Leary. Olguin also advanced in the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes.

In distance events, Elizabeth Smutz (13:10.98) and Alexis Smith (13:26.32) finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the girls 3200-meter run. Joshua Komensky led the boys in the same event, finishing 13th with a time of 11:06.41.

Field event results included a ninth-place finish in the girls discus from Elizabeth Appel (83-05) and an 11th-place mark in the boys shot put from Zane Conklin (36-09.50).

The championships continue Saturday at the UNM Track & Field Complex, where East Mountain enters the final day tied for sixth in the girls 3A team standings and eighth in the boys standings.
