24th Annual Kite Festival at Wildlife West Nature Park

EDGEWOOD, N.M. — The skies over the high desert will fill with color this weekend as the 24th Annual Kite Festival returns to Wildlife West Nature Park on May 2 and 3.

The two-day event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, offers free admission to the public for the festival activities. Attendees can watch professional stunt kite demonstrations and participate in all-ages kite-flying contests for a chance to win prizes.

In addition to the aerial displays, the festival will host vendors selling kites, banners, and “whirly gigs.” Food and beverages will be available for purchase from on-site food trucks.

While the festival itself is free, regular admission fees apply for visitors wishing to tour the 122-acre zoo and the park’s new children’s trail. The facility serves as a sanctuary for more than 20 species of non-releasable native New Mexico wildlife, including cougars, bobcats, grey foxes, and coyotes.

Zoo Admission Rates:

  • Adults: $12
  • Seniors: $10
  • Students: $5
  • Children (4 and under): Free
