East Mountain Powers Past West Las Vegas, Advances to Santa Fe Indian School Tournament Championship

SANTA FE — The East Mountain Timberwolves utilized their high-powered offense and steadfast defense to defeat West Las Vegas 11-6 on Saturday in the second round of the Santa Fe Indian School baseball tournament.
With the victory, the Timberwolves advance to the championship game, where they will face off against McCurdy for the tournament title.
East Mountain, which improved its overall record to an impressive 8-1, handed West Las Vegas (4-1) its first loss of the season. The Timberwolves entered the contest boasting an explosive lineup averaging 12.9 runs and nearly 11 hits per game, and that depth was critical in navigating past an undefeated opponent.
Standout performances across the Timberwolves’ roster helped secure the crucial tournament win. Slugger Charlie Birdwell continued to be a major force at the plate, anchoring a lineup that had produced a .660 team slugging percentage prior to the weekend. Birdwell entered Saturday’s matchup with a staggering 1.360 slugging percentage and a .735 on-base percentage. Meanwhile, Tobias Gabaldon provided a consistent offensive spark, getting on base and keeping the pressure on the West Las Vegas pitching staff.
On the defensive side, Sullivan Millea provided flawless fielding to help keep the West Las Vegas batters at bay, while Dalton Springall continued a stellar run on the mound to earn the win for the Timberwolves.
West Las Vegas, which had been averaging eight runs per game, saw strong efforts from Mateo Duran and Javi Montoya, but the team ultimately could not match East Mountain’s firepower to keep their undefeated streak alive.
The Timberwolves will now turn their attention to McCurdy as they look to capture the Santa Fe Indian School tournament championship and build on their dominant start to the 2026 season.
