Timberwolves soccer is celebrating historic season
The East Mountain High School boys’ varsity soccer team is celebrating a historic 2025 season, one that has rewritten the record books with a best-ever wins total for the program.
The Timberwolves have demonstrated an unprecedented level of skill and teamwork, achieving a school best-ever 12-4-2 overall record (11-6-3 in 2022) as they approach the final games of the regular season and prepare for the NMAA state playoffs. soccer.

Defining Victories and Key Players
The team’s success has been built on a foundation of grit, with several thrilling, down-to-the-wire victories:
- Overtime Heroes: The Timberwolves proved their mettle in clutch moments, securing a dramatic 2-1 win in double overtime against Socorro and a hard-fought 3-2 overtime victory against district opponent Oak Grove Classical Academy.
- Dominant Defense: The squad posted five shutouts, including convincing victories over Portales, Aztec, MDSC, and West Las Vegas, showcasing the strength of their backline and the excellent play of junior goalkeeper Aidric Dominguez.
- Late-Season Momentum: A crucial 1-0 victory against rival Bosque High School in October underscored the team’s ability to win tight, high-stakes district matches.
Record-Breaking Offensive Power

A dynamic and young offensive core has been instrumental in setting the new wins record. Sophomore midfielder Zavier Hawkins has been the driving force, leading the team in both goals (11) and total shots. Sophomore forward Noah Trujillo has been the team’s top distributor, showcasing his playmaking with a team-high in assists.
This blend of sharp-shooting and effective passing has resulted in a potent offense that consistently challenges opposing defenses.
Senior forward Angelo Gutierrez’s hat-trick three-goal performance against Cottonwood Classical Prep on Oct. 16 showed the Timberwolves have multiple offensive threats.
High Expectations for the Postseason
Currently ranked near the top of the New Mexico Class A/3A division, the No. 4 Timberwolves are poised to make a significant run in the upcoming NMAA State Championship tournament. The historic win total and proven ability to triumph in pressure situations have created a palpable buzz around the team.
Head Coach Colton Oord is in his second year at the helm of the program, and he praised the team’s commitment.
“Now our second time going through (district) we’re kind of figuring it out. We pulled a win on Bosque (1-0), a win today (5-1 Classical Prep), and then looked a lot better with Sandia Prep on Tuesday,” Oord said. “I think we just clicked off for a little bit. We had to talk about that and just kind of find that momentum. We a little mid-season lull and got the boys refocused and we are really finding it from there again.”
The East Mountain soccer fans are eagerly anticipates the playoffs, confident that this record-setting team is ready to compete for a state title.
