Timberwolves Dominate All-District Rosters with 10 Players

SANDIA PARK — Following a dominant run to the Class 3A state championship, the East Mountain Timberwolves’ historic season received its final exclamation point this week. Headlined by seven first-team selections, East Mountain completely overwhelmed the District 4/5 All-District baseball honors.

The Timberwolves tore through district competition with ruthless efficiency, outscoring their opponents by a staggering 232-28 margin. That absolute command on both sides of the plate was fully reflected in the postseason awards voted on by league coaches.

First-Team All-District Honorees

The Aces at the Top

  • Luke Stoerner (Sr.): The definition of lockdown. Stoerner anchored the Timberwolves’ pitching staff with a microscopic 0.84 ERA, racking up a 6-0 record and a team-high 75 strikeouts across 41.2 innings pitched. At the plate, he was just as lethal, carrying a .541 batting average with 13 doubles, three home runs, and 48 RBIs.
  • Cole Darnell (Sr.): Darnell matched Stoerner step-for-step on the mound, carrying a 2.03 ERA and a 6-1 record while leading the team in innings pitched (48.1) and striking out 66 batters. When he wasn’t pitching, he hit .429, scored eight runs, and drove in 12.
  • Christopher Moya (Sr.): A true dual-threat weapon, Moya posted a a perfect 6-0 record on the mound with a 2.03 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 31 innings. Offensively, he was a steady force, hitting .309 with 33 runs scored, 21 hits, and 24 RBIs.

The Offensive Juggernauts

  • Charlie Birdwell (Sr.): The spark plug and power source of the Timberwolves’ offense. Birdwell put up video-game numbers, leading the regular starters with a blistering .615 batting average. He blasted 21 doubles, four triples, and nine home runs while racking up 64 RBIs and scoring 62 runs. He was also a terror on the basepaths, leading the team with 31 stolen bases.
  • Ty Rector (Sr.): Rector was a constant threat at the dish, hitting .478 with 52 runs scored, 44 hits, and 41 RBIs. Showing elite patience and power, he slugged 15 doubles, five home runs, and drew 22 walks to finish with a massive 1.413 OPS. Rector also chipped in on the mound, going 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA and nine strikeouts in limited action.

The Core Anchors

  • Aidan Madrid (Sr.): Madrid proved to be one of the toughest outs in the lineup, hitting .461 with 41 hits, 48 RBIs, and 11 runs scored. On the mound, he provided flawless depth, going 3-0 with a 2.19 ERA and striking out 13 in 16 innings.
  • Quinlan Gwyther (Sr.): Gwyther kept the line moving all season long, batting .414 with 33 runs scored, 36 hits, and 30 RBIs, including seven doubles and two triples. He also anchored the backend of games, recording a team-high three saves to go with a 2-0 record and 19 strikeouts over 16 innings.

Second-Team All-District Honorees

  • Ryan Moorhead (Jr.): The junior outfielder and relief pitcher made a major impact, hitting .395 with 29 runs scored, 30 hits, and 25 RBIs. On the mound, Moorhead was practically unhittable in late-inning relief, maintaining a 0.00 ERA with one save and seven strikeouts in just four innings of work.
  • Dalton Springall (Sr.): Springall provided excellent depth and pop for the Timberwolves, hitting .349 with 27 runs scored, 15 hits, and seven RBIs. He also ate critical innings on the mound, earning a win and striking out 11 in eight frames.
  • Brody Johnson (So.): The lone underclassman to crack the all-district list for East Mountain, the freshman proved he belonged with the veterans. Johnson batted a stellar .484 in 36 plate appearances, scoring 34 runs while driving in 17. He also flashed his speed on the turf, swiping 13 bases on the year.

With a senior-heavy core dominating the postseason accolades and a State Championship trophy in the display case, this East Mountain squad cements its legacy as one of the most dominant teams in Class 3A history.
