Rollin’ Into the Centennial: Edgewood to Host Route 66 Roller Skating Event This Weekend

EDGEWOOD — The East Mountains are laced up and rolling into a historic milestone this weekend as the local community kicks off a unique celebration for the Mother Road.
As part of the nationwide countdown to the Route 66 Centennial, Edgewood Connected, the Town of Edgewood, and Rich Ford are teaming up to host “Rollin’ Route 66,” a two-day community roller skating event designed to bring families, neighbors, and visitors together on eight wheels.
The free event will take place in the parking lot of Rich Ford in Edgewood on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11.
Bridging History and Community
With the official 100th anniversary of Route 66 approaching, the event serves as a localized, high-energy nod to the vintage Americana culture that defined the historic highway. Under the theme “Rolling Forward Together,” organizers are blending nostalgia with modern community spirit.
To ensure everyone can take part in the festivities, skates will be provided on-site completely free of charge.
The event schedule spans two days to accommodate both evening cruisers and weekend daytime skaters:
- Friday, July 10: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday, July 11: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
A True Local Collaboration
Supported in part by the Town of Edgewood’s 1999 Lodgers Tax Program, the event represents a coordinated effort by Edgewood Connected to promote hyper-local engagement and draw positive attention to the vibrant business corridor along the old highway.
By bringing a temporary roller rink experience right to the heart of the community at Rich Ford, organizers hope to replicate the classic, small-town gathering vibe that has always made the East Mountains a distinct place to live and visit.
Whether you are a seasoned quad-skater looking to show off some retro moves or a family looking for a weekend outing close to home, the “Rollin’ Route 66” event promises to deliver classic fun right here in our own backyard.
