Rodriguez Fans 10 Batter, Lady Pintos Top Hot Springs

MORIARTY — Junior Emma Rodriguez sat down 10 batters and crossed the plate four times Thursday to lead the Moriarty Pintos to a 19-10 tournament victory over Hot Springs.

Rodriguez earned the win in the circle, surrendering only one earned run while racking up 10 strikeouts in four innings of work. Despite going 0-for-1 in official at-bats, Rodriguez’s discipline at the plate was a catalyst for the Pintos (6-1), as she drew four walks to score four runs and record an RBI.

The Moriarty offense was fueled by a pair of sophomores. Peyton Rutz finished a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Danika Davenport went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

The Pintos utilized a patient approach to dismantle the Tigers’ pitching, with Bella Maldonado matching Rodriguez with four runs scored and Laihla Reese adding two runs. Junior Destinee Chavez drove in two runs on a 0-for-2 afternoon, and Angelita Tapia contributed an RBI and two runs scored.

Tayler Milligan provided a spark off the bench, finishing 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored.

Other Moriarty contributors included Hali Gruen, who saw four at-bats, and Alexis Goodrum, who appeared as a pinch runner and scored.

Moriarty continues its home tournament on Friday with a game at 4 pm.
