Road to Blue Trophy Runs Through East Mountain

The East Mountain Timberwolves have officially ascended to the peak of Class 3A baseball, claiming the No. 1 overall seed in the state tournament following a dominant regular season defined by an unrelenting win streak.
As the top seed, the Timberwolves (25-1) will bypass the uncertainty of the lower bracket and set their sights on a quarterfinal matchup scheduled for Thursday, May 14. The game is slated for a 3:30 PM first pitch at the Jennifer Riordan Spark Kindness Sports Complex in Albuquerque.
East Mountain now waits to see which challenger emerges from the first-round series between No. 8 New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) and No. 9 Tohatchi.
The Path Ahead
While the Timberwolves enjoy a first-round bye, their potential opponents offer two very different styles of play:
- NMMI (Colts): A disciplined squad that has shown flashes of power hitting late in the season.
- Tohatchi (Cougars): A resilient group known for aggressive base running and a “never out of it” mentality.
Tournament Outlook
The selection marks a historic milestone for the East Mountain program, rewarding a season where the pitching staff consistently shut down district rivals and the bats remained hot through the final weeks of April.
Playing at the Spark Kindness Sports Complex—a neutral site known for its fast infield—the Timberwolves will look to translate their regular-season momentum into a deep postseason run. With the brackets now set, the road to the blue trophy officially runs through the mountains.
