Pintos use Homerun Power to Sweep Pojoaque Valley

POJOAQUE, N.M. — The Moriarty High School baseball team matched the dominant energy of their softball counterparts Saturday, completing a District 2-4A doubleheader sweep of Pojoaque Valley with a pair of double-digit scoring performances.

The Pintos (10-6) relied on a balanced offensive attack and clinical pitching to secure 12-1 and 18-7 victories, moving to 3-0 in district play.

Game 1: Moriarty 12, Pojoaque Valley 1

In the opener, Moriarty used a steady build-up of runs to dismantle the Elkettes, capped by a 14-hit barrage. The Pintos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back, putting the game away with a four-run fourth and a two-run sixth.

Micah Kamplain was the standout on both sides of the ball. On the mound, he tossed 4.2 innings of two-hit ball, striking out nine and allowing zero earned runs to earn the win. At the plate, he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Other key performers in Game 1 included:

  • Wesley Francis: 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
  • Cash Klein: 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and two RBIs.
  • Mario Romero: 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
  • Raiden Scribner: 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Wesley Francis finished the game in relief, throwing 1.1 innings of one-hit ball to preserve the comfortable victory.

Game 2: Moriarty 18, Pojoaque Valley 7

The nightcap proved to be a higher-scoring affair, as the Pintos exploded for 17 hits. Despite a rocky start that saw Pojoaque Valley lead 6-3 after two innings, Moriarty’s offense went into overdrive, scoring 12 runs across the third and fourth innings to seize control.

The power display was historic, as the Pintos launched five home runs. Cash Klein led the way with two homers and three RBIs, while Raiden Scribner, Micah Kamplain, and Tyler Denomme each added a long ball of their own.

Offensive Leaders:

The sweep solidifies Moriarty’s position at the top of the District 2-4A standings as they head into a busy mid-season schedule.
