Pintos Power Through Intense Field at Shash Wrestling Duals

The Moriarty High School boys wrestling team finished with a 4-1 record at the Shash Wrestling Duals on Dec. 17, securing decisive victories over Bernalillo, Miyamura, Raton, and Shiprock.

The Pintos’ only loss of the day came against Valencia, a dual that ended 63-12 in favor of the Jaguars.

Dual Results Summary

Moriarty opened the event with a 60-6 win over Bernalillo, followed by a 42-22 victory over Miyamura and a 48-26 win over Raton. The team closed the afternoon with a narrow 42-36 win against Shiprock, a match decided in the final weight classes.

Individual Leaders

Thomas Miller (190 lbs) led the Pintos with an undefeated performance, recording five victories. Miller secured four wins by fall, including a third-period pin of Miyamura’s Isaac Livingston and a 1:05 pin of Raton’s Josh Simmons.

Lucas Rodelas Lozoya (138/144 lbs) finished with four wins, including a 14-second pin against Shiprock and a 1:10 fall against Miyamura. Gavin Everett (132 lbs) also produced a high scoring rate, contributing three pins and a forfeit victory.

Sonny Apodaca (144 lbs) and Angelo Montoya (175 lbs) provided consistent points throughout the duals. Apodaca went 4-1 with three pins, his only loss coming against Adrian Sisneros of Raton. Montoya finished 4-1, including a win by fall over Steven Goodman (Miyamura) and a forfeit win in the Valencia dual.

Match Breakdown

Against Shiprock, the dual was decided by the Pintos’ ability to secure falls in the upper weights. Trailing at various points in the match, Moriarty received critical pins from Fabian Silva (165) and Miller to overtake the Chieftains.

In the lower weights, Domicio Brito (120) finished with a 4-1 record, highlighted by a 35-second pin against Miyamura. Kayleb Gleason (126) added two wins by fall to the team total.
