Moriarty sophomore Cash Klein named District 2-4A baseball Player of the Year

MORIARTY — Moriarty High School sophomore Cash Klein has been named the District 2-4A Player of the Year, capping off a spectacular baseball season where he dominated both at the plate and on the mound.
The sophomore standout was an absolute force for the Pintos, anchoring the team’s offense with a jaw-dropping .556 batting average and serving as a heavily relied-upon workhorse in the pitching rotation.

Klein’s offensive numbers read like a video game stat line. Over 25 games, he racked up 45 hits in 81 official at-bats, showing incredible extra-base power by smashing 13 doubles, three triples, and seven home runs. His elite eye at the plate resulted in 11 walks against just four strikeouts all season, helping him carry a massive .613 on-base percentage. When he did swing, he made it count, slugging an astronomical 1.049 to finish the year with a historic 1.662 OPS while driving in 34 runs and scoring 29 times.

Beyond his offensive fireworks, Klein was a vital two-way asset for Moriarty. On the mound, he battled through 27 innings over nine appearances, striking out 28 batters. Defensively, he took on a heavy workload with 92 total chances, recording 65 putouts and 20 assists to finish with a strong .924 fielding percentage.
With two more varsity seasons still ahead of him, the District 2-4A Player of the Year has already cemented himself as one of the most dangerous and versatile baseball talents in the state.
