Lady Pintos Sweep East Mountain 23-3, 20-0

SANDIA PARK — The Moriarty Pintos unleashed an offensive onslaught Thursday afternoon, cruising to 23-3 and 20-0 non-conference victories over the East Mountain Timberwolves.
Game One
Moriarty established dominance early, plating 10 runs in the opening frame. The Pintos’ lineup proved relentless as Angelita Tapia led the charge, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Peyton Rutz also contributed significantly at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a double, while Emma Rodriguez, Hali Gruen, and Destinee Chavez each crossed the plate to keep the pressure on the Timberwolves’ defense.
The Pintos’ speed on the basepaths was a deciding factor, as the team combined for eight stolen bases. Tapia accounted for three of those, with Gruen adding two and Rodriguez, Alexis Goodrum, and Camila Bencomo Sotelo each swiping one.
On the mound, Rutz earned the win, pitching two innings and allowing just two hits. Rodriguez provided stellar relief, throwing a hitless inning to seal the shortened contest. The Moriarty defense remained sharp behind them, highlighted by errorless performances from Chavez, Kristina Means, and Danika Davenport.
East Mountain struggled to find its rhythm against the Pintos’ pitching. Despite the lopsided score, Chaeli Lehocky provided a bright spot for the Timberwolves, smashing a home run and driving in two runs. Isla Campbell, Sarah Garcia, and Tess Schumacher each recorded a hit for East Mountain, while Arianna Markham-Hinders contributed a run scored.

Defensively, Natasha Hill and Abigail Widerkehr worked to stabilize the Timberwolves, but eight team errors allowed Moriarty to extend several innings. Isla Campbell, Lehocky, and Garcia all saw time in the circle for East Mountain in an attempt to slow the Pintos’ bats.
Other contributors appearing in the box score for their respective teams included Moriarty’s Laihla Reese and East Mountain’s Cadynce Atkinson and Violet Meiser.
Game 2
Bella Maldonado threw a three-inning no-hitter and drove in five runs as the Moriarty Pintos shut out the Timberwolves 20-0 in game two.
Moriarty (5-0) scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back, ending the game early via the mercy rule. Maldonado was perfect at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple and a double to supplement her dominant performance in the circle.

The Pintos’ offense capitalized on 11 walks and four East Mountain errors. Tapia went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Means added a triple and three runs scored. Moriarty finished the contest with a .636 team on-base percentage.
East Mountain (0-6) was held hitless in the loss. The Timberwolves’ defense was led by Schumacher and Lehocky, but the team was unable to overcome the early deficit.
Moriarty has now outscored opponents 60-6 through its first five games of the season.
