Free Screenings, Blood Drive, and Crafts Headlined at Moriarty High School Wellness Fair

MORIARTY, N.M. — A regional health initiative that grew from an elementary school outreach project into a major district-wide resource is set to return this month with expanded offerings.

The Moriarty-Edgewood School District will host its second annual Community Health and Wellness Fair, alongside a community craft fair, on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Moriarty High School practice gym. The free, family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 200 Center Ave.

Organized by Moriarty High School nurse Donzlynn Chavez, the fair is designed to bridge healthcare access gaps across the East Mountains and Torrance County by gathering regional providers, social services, and holistic practitioners under one roof.

Attendees will have access to a wide array of free medical screenings and clinical services. Providers will conduct checks for blood pressure and blood glucose, administer sports physicals, and offer testing for hepatitis C and HIV. Qualifying residents with current prescriptions can receive vision screenings and free eyeglasses.

The event also features a Vitalant blood drive, access to primary care clinicians, and consultations with mental health and counseling organizations.

In addition to traditional clinical care, this year’s gathering incorporates holistic wellness demonstrations, including crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, aura readings, and shoulder massages. Families can pick up free children’s books, explore early childhood resources, meet a certified therapy dog named Hope, and browse booths featuring local crafters, vendors, and small businesses.
