Edgewood Lions Club to Host Smith’s Food Drive, Business Expo on Sept. 12

EDGEWOOD, N.M. — The Edgewood Lions Club has scheduled a full slate of community service initiatives throughout September, including a statewide food drive, a local business expo and a municipal playground cleanup.

The club begins its efforts Sept. 12 with Food Drive outside the local Smith’s from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of a statewide Lions initiative. Community members can contribute nonperishable goods or monetary donations to support local food pantries, addressing state child hunger rates where one in four children faces food insecurity daily.

Later that day, the Lions will host a Business EXPO from 4 to 7 p.m. at Venus Field, taking place under the event tents directly following the conclusion of Woofstock. The gathering will feature local business exhibits alongside food and beverage vendors. Businesses interested in securing booth space can contact Lion K.R. Scott by email at kr.edgewood@gmail.com.

The month’s activities will conclude Sept. 26 with a community cleanup at the Edgewood Community Park playground from 9 to 11 a.m. The project is part of a townwide effort to enhance safety at municipal recreational facilities.

The town will supply trash bags and cold water, while participating volunteers and families are encouraged to bring their own work gloves, rakes and shovels.

Residents interested in volunteering for the playground cleanup can email info@edgewoodlions.org. Additional information about local club programs is available at edgewoodlions.org.
