East Mountain’s Olguin Strikes for Triple Gold

SANDIA PREP — Jaylyn Olguin won three individual events to lead a dominant showing by the East Mountain High School track and field team at the Sandia Prep Sundevil Invite.

Olguin was the standout of the meet for the Timberwolves, sweeping the girls sprints and adding a field event victory. She captured the 100-meter dash in 12.99 seconds, won the 400 with a time of 1:02.26, and cleared 5 feet, 2 inches to take gold in the high jump.

East Mountain also flexed its depth in the distance events. Joshua Komensky paced the boys with a victory in the 1600, crossing the finish line in 4:58.86, and later added a runner-up finish in the 3200 (10:44.07).

On the girls’ side, Elizabeth Smutz secured a win in the 1600 with a time of 6:21.45 and took second in the 3200. Ruth Trullinger was a double winner for East Mountain, capturing the 800 in 2:35.21 and leaping 14-3.25 to win the long jump.

The Timberwolves picked up two more individual gold medals in the boys’ field events. Bodi True won the discus with a throw of 116-0.75, while Eli Conklin cleared 5-8 to tie for first in the high jump.

East Mountain’s relay teams also turned in strong performances, with the girls claiming first place in both the 4×200 (1:54.32) and the 4×400 (4:41.04).
