East Mountain Juggernaut Overwhelms Ruidoso in 29-3 District Statement

RUIDOSO, N.M. — If there were any doubts about the No. 1 Class 3A East Mountain Timberwolves’ dominance, they were erased in a shower of base hits and a 13-run fourth inning on Tuesday.
The Timberwolves (20-1, 10-0) stayed perfect in District 4/5 play, dismantling the Ruidoso Warriors (8-10, 4-4) in a 29-3 road victory that was shortened to five innings via the mercy rule. The win marks the 20th of the season for a Timberwolves squad that seems to be peaking at exactly the right time.
A Fourth-Inning Fireworks Show
While East Mountain jumped out to an early 8-0 lead through two innings, the fourth frame proved explosive. The Timberwolves sent nearly 20 batters to the plate, hanging 13 runs on the scoreboard to put the game effectively out of reach.

Senior Charles Birdwell led the offensive onslaught, finishing a monster day at the plate going 3-for-3 with two home runs and 5 RBIs. Birdwell was joined in the multi-RBI club by Quinlan Gwyther and Aidan Madrid, who drove in six and five runs respectively.
East Mountain Batting Highlights:
- Ty Rector (Sr): 4-for-5, 5 runs scored, 2 doubles.
- Charles Birdwell (Sr): 3-for-3, 2 HR, 5 RBIs, 5 runs.
- Quinlan Gwyther (Sr): 3-for-4, 2 doubles, 6 RBIs.
- Aidan Madrid (Sr): 3-for-4, 5 RBIs.
- Luke Stoerner (Sr): 2-for-3, 5 runs, 1 double.
- Brandon Johnson (Fr): 2-for-4, 1 triple, 4 RBIs.
Dominance on the Mound
The Timberwolves’ pitching staff was equally suffocating. Senior Christopher Moya earned the win, striking out four over three innings of work while allowing only one earned run. Quinlan Gwyther came on in relief to slam the door, striking out six of the eight batters he faced in two hitless innings.
Together, the duo limited Ruidoso to just three hits while the East Mountain defense backed them up with solid play in the field.
Looking Ahead: Senior Day and NMMI
The Timberwolves now shift their focus to a final regular-season homestand that promises both emotion and high stakes. East Mountain will host the New Mexico Military Institute (8-12, 5-5) for a home doubleheader this Friday.
The twin bill, which kicks off at 2 p.m., serves as Senior Day for a decorated class of Timberwolves. The roster features a deep core of seniors including:
Ryan Moorhead, Ty Rector, Charles Birdwell, Christopher Moya, Dalton Springall, Quinlan Gwyther, Aidan Madrid, Cole Darnell, and Luke Stoerner.
