Lady Timberwolves Slip Against Sandia Prep

SANDIA PARK – The East Mountain softball team faced a challenging afternoon on the diamond, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Sandia Prep. Despite the lopsided scores, several East Mountain athletes delivered standout individual performances across the two-game stretch.

Game 1: Sandia Prep 20, East Mountain 2

In the opening contest, Sandia Prep jumped out to a massive lead early, fueled by a 15-run first inning. However, East Mountain refused to be shut out, tallying runs in both the first and third innings.

Natasha Hill led the way for the East Mountain offense, finishing the game a perfect 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored. Kateari Weber also contributed a hit, while Isla Campbell earned an RBI.

In the circle, Chaeli Lehocky provided a steadying presence in relief. The senior pitched one inning, allowing just one earned run on two hits and striking out none, keeping the Sandia Prep bats at bay for a frame after the initial surge.

Game 2: Sandia Prep 27, East Mountain 9

The nightcap saw East Mountain find its rhythm at the plate, more than doubling its hit total from the first game. While Sandia Prep’s 17-run second inning proved insurmountable, East Mountain’s offense remained aggressive, scoring nine runs on six hits.

Several players posted impressive stat lines in the second game:

  • Chaeli Lehocky: Capped off a strong day by going 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and 3 RBIs.
  • Natasha Hill: Remained a force in the lineup, going 2-for-3 with a double, 3 RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Kateari Weber: Stayed perfect at the plate, going 1-for-1 and scoring twice.
  • Tess Schumacher: Added a hit and an RBI to the team total.
  • Elena Hansen: Showed great discipline in situational hitting, recording an RBI and scoring twice.

Violet Meiser and Arianna Markham-Hinders also contributed to the scoring effort, each crossing the plate for East Mountain.

While the pitching staff struggled with the Sandia Prep lineup—combining for 15 walks in the second game—Tess Schumacher and Isla Campbell combined to complete the three-inning effort.

Despite the final scores, East Mountain showed significant offensive growth as the doubleheader progressed, moving from a .200 team batting average in Game 1 to a .429 average in Game 2.
