Edgewood Welcomes National Blacksmith Competition for 4-Day Event

EDGEWOOD  — The World Championship Blacksmiths organization will kick off its next major individual competition of the 2026 season later this month, bringing top farriers to the high desert for the Roadrunner Classic.

The four-day event is scheduled to run from June 24 through June 27 at the WCB Headquarters, located at 47 Rainbow Rd. in Edgewood.

The Roadrunner Classic marks a return to the roots of the organization, which was officially launched 20 years ago on June 19, 2006. Founded by CEO Craig Trnka, the WCB was established to elevate the professional farrier trade through public competition and education. By bringing events directly to the horse-owning public, the organization highlights the critical role of the farrier as a highly educated equine health professional.

The 2026 season features a rigorous slate of events, including four individual competitions, one four-person team competition, and the culminating World Championship at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Canada, this September. Competitors at the Roadrunner Classic will be vying to build their standings toward the National Champion title, currently held by 2025 champion Troy Wood.

Unlike traditional historical competitions where farriers had to haul heavy equipment in the backs of pickup trucks, the WCB provides all core equipment on-site—including anvils, forges, and vices—allowing competitors to arrive with just their personal toolboxes. The event will utilize a unique “go-round” format designed to maximize educational takeaways, allowing participants to compete and then immediately observe and learn from their peers.
