STATE MEET: Lady Timberwolves Place 4th, Pulverize State Record

ALBUQUERQUE — East Mountain didn’t let something as small as not having a track keep it from going out and collecting multiple medals at the New Mexico State Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the UNM Track & Field Complex.

Driving that point home was the Lady Timberwolves pulverizing a state record that was established before they were born.

The Lady Timberwolves (Tessa Knight, Ada Hansen, Ella O’Leary and Jaylyn Olguin) torched the field in the Class 3A 800-meter relay (4×200), clocking a 1:44.68 to take first place and erase a 24-year-old state record (1:46.66) by nearly two full seconds.

The historic run anchored a fourth-place overall team finish for the girls, driven largely by Olguin, who emerged as the meet’s individual standout. Olguin reached the podium in every sprint final, securing first place in the 100-meter dash (12.7), fourth place in the 400-meter dash (1:01.03), and second place in the 200-meter dash (26.13).

The Timberwolves’ depth was the story of the 200-meter final, where East Mountain occupied half of the lanes. Olguin secured second place at 26.13, followed immediately by Ada Hansen in third at 26.28 and Tessa Knight in fourth at 26.41. Ella O’Leary rounded out the scoring in eighth place with a time of 27.55.

On the boys’ side, Josh Sanchez led the sprinters with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.64), while Joshua Komensky clocked a 4:39.74 to take fifth place in the 1,600-meter run. The boys’ relay teams added crucial points to the board, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay (3:38.29) and a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter relay (1:32.76).
