Moya Drives in 5, Fans 8 as Timberwolves Stay Unbeaten in 4/5

SANDIA PARK – The East Mountain Timberwolves continued their relentless march through District 4/5 on Tuesday, utilizing a high-pressure offense and dominant pitching to secure an 18-1 victory over the Bosque School Bobcats.

The win keeps East Mountain (17-1, 7-0) perfect in district play, while the Bobcats fall to 5-9 overall and 1-6 in the district.

The Timberwolves’ offense was a clinic in efficiency, plating 18 runs on 12 hits, but it was their discipline and speed that truly broke the game open. East Mountain batters reached base at a staggering .658 clip, led by Luke Stoerner, Owen Darnell, and Cole Darnell, who all finished with perfect 1.000 OBPs. Stoerner was particularly effective, reaching base in all three plate appearances and scoring three times.

Once on base, the Timberwolves were a blur, racking up 14 stolen bases. Brody Johnson led the charge with four steals, followed closely by Charles Birdwell with three and Stace Davis with two. Ty Rector, C. Moya, Dalton Springall, Brandon Johnson, and Stoerner each added a stolen base to the tally.

Christopher Moya provided the heavy lifting at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two doubles and 5 RBIs. Rector also turned in a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Birdwell contributed a double and two RBIs. Brandon Johnson drove in two runs of his own on two hits.

On the mound, Moya and Ryan Moorhead were nearly untouchable, combining to strike out 11 Bobcats in just five innings of work. Moya earned the win, scattering three hits and allowing one run over four innings while striking out eight. Moorhead was perfect in his appearance, facing three batters and striking all three out on just 16 pitches.

The Timberwolves showed plenty of “take one for the team” mentality as well; Moorhead was hit by a pitch twice, while Aidan Madrid, Brody Johnson, and Springall were each hit once.

East Mountain looks to carry this momentum into a home doubleheader against Dexter on Thursday, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
