East Mountain Breaks Moriarty’s Clean-Sheet Streak, but Falls 2-1

MORIARTY, N.M. — Ellie Corr scored twice Thursday to lift the Moriarty Lady Pintos to a 2-1 victory over the East Mountain Lady Timberwolves, keeping Moriarty unbeaten on the season in a tightly contested rivalry matchup.

Corr opened the scoring midway through the first half, finding the back of the net at the 27:04 mark to give Moriarty (5-0) an early edge. She broke through again at the 30:00 mark of the second half, capitalizing on an assist from Janessa Torres to secure the game-winner.

Goalkeeper McKayla Miller turned in a sharp performance in net for the Lady Pintos, recording eight saves to protect the lead against a persistent East Mountain attack.

East Mountain (3-2-1) answered with a goal from Avaihabella Valdez, breaching a Moriarty defense that entered the contest having not conceded a single goal all season.

Despite coming away with the loss, East Mountain coach Rebel Lathrop praised her squad’s resilience against the undefeated hosts.

“These girls fought hard,” Lathrop said. “We didn’t see much frustration. We didn’t see any fighting between them as a team. They kept talking, they kept moving the ball. A couple minor mistakes that they capitalized on, and sometimes that’s the way it happens. But I’m still proud of each and every one of these ladies. They played amazing today.”

Both defenses set a physical tone, disrupting offensive rhythms throughout the contest and limiting second-chance opportunities in the box.

Moriarty coach Val Luker acknowledged the test East Mountain provided, noting her team’s composure against a disciplined back line.

“They played a great game,” Luker said. “They gave us a good challenge, for sure. They’re still learning, and they’re doing well working together.”

Moriarty looks to extend its unblemished record Saturday morning when the Lady Pintos host Monte del Sol at 9 a.m.
