East Mountain Veterans and Families Invited to Multi-Agency Services Fair Sept. 9

TIJERAS, N.M. — Military veterans and their families in the East Mountains will have direct access to state and federal resources during an upcoming benefits fair designed to help former service members navigate earned programs on-site.

The East Mountains Veterans Services Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Village of Tijeras Council Chambers, located at 12 Camino Municipal.

Hosted in coordination with state Rep. Stefani Lord, R-Tijeras, the event offers attendees one-on-one consultations with agency representatives to apply directly for benefits, access support programs, and obtain a free lifetime New Mexico State Parks and Camping Pass.

Participating organizations include the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services, New Mexico Veterans Affairs, the New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers, and Paws & Stripes.

Representatives will provide guidance on a wide range of services, including:

  • Healthcare resources and hospital services
  • Property tax exemptions and waivers
  • Disability claims assistance
  • Mental health education and individual therapy
  • Veteran Service Dog programs
  • Education benefits and GI Bill navigation
  • Food assistance and housing resources
  • Business and entrepreneur mentorship
  • Veteran license plates, surviving spouse benefits, and burial assistance

Organizers encourage attendees seeking on-site claims processing or program enrollment to bring relevant documentation. Recommended items include a DD-214 or equivalent discharge paperwork, a Department of Veterans Affairs award letter (if applicable), and proof of New Mexico residency, such as a driver’s license. Surviving spouses seeking benefits should bring copies of both their marriage certificate and the veteran’s death certificate.
