Mini Comic Con set for Saturday in Moriarty

MORIARTY, N.M. — The Moriarty Mini Comic Convention returns Saturday for its eighth annual installment, bringing pop culture, local entertainment and family activities to the Moriarty Civic Center.

Running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the single-day convention features a full lineup of scheduled programming throughout the afternoon. Admission is $5 for attendees 13 and older, while children 12 and under are admitted free.

Outdoor performances begin at 11:30 a.m. on the back lawn with an action skit titled “Mistaken Identity” by the New Mexico Gunfighters. The group returns for two additional Old West performances during the day, presenting “Dueling Drunks” at 1 p.m. and “Miss Molly/Mean Sheriff” at 2:30 p.m.

Inside the civic center, New Mexico Dragon Kajukenbo hosts a karate and self-defense demonstration at noon to raise funds for equipment, uniforms and seminar training. The East Mountain Companion Animal Project follows at 12:30 p.m. with adoptable pets and information on local rescue efforts.

Musical entertainment features Mermaid Melody performing live cello music during her “Siren’s Song” showcase at 1:30 p.m.

The event wraps up with the annual costume contest at 3 p.m., with categories for children 12 and under, attendees 13 and older, and groups. Participant lineup begins at 2:50 p.m.
