Spurs and Speed: East Mountain Cowboy Church Hosts Youth Rodeo Weekend

EDGEWOOD — Young cowboys and cowgirls from across the region are gearing up for a high-stakes weekend as the East Mountain Cowboy Church hosts the fourth round of its annual youth rodeo series on July 10 and 11.

The two-day action begins Friday night, July 10, with the East Mountain Cowboy Church Roughstock Series. The action gets underway at  7 p.m. at the arena located at 2234 Historic Route 66. The evening features adrenaline-pumping events ranging from sheep riding for children ages 6 and under to calf, steer, and junior bull riding. The night concludes with the senior and open bull riding divisions, which feature a $500 added purse nightly for the open division competitors.

The action continues Saturday morning, July 11, with the 5th Annual 2026 Saddle Series Youth Rodeo, dubbed “Saturday Speed.” Events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. sharp at the Dewey Severs Arena.

Saturday’s lineup offers a variety of timed events tailored for all age groups, starting with leadline and dummy roping for the youngest participants. Contestants ages 7 to 18 will compete in breakaway, steer breakaway, steer daubing, ribbon roping, step-down calf roping, and child/adult team roping.

Organizers have announced a $500 cash incentive for the 16-18 senior calf roping and senior team roping divisions, provided each event draws a minimum of five riders or teams. Year-end champions across the series will be awarded custom saddles.

The EMCC Chuck Wagon will be on-site Saturday to provide concessions for spectators and families.
